Telecommunications Market Reports
Spain Broadband
Market - Overview and Statistics
Spain’s broadband
penetration is slightly lower than the EU average, while
broadband access prices are relatively expensive in terms of the
price to performance ratio. But with a population of over 43
million the country’s potential broadband market is huge.
Overall, the highest growth is taking place in xDSL, with
substantial increases in subscribers between 2003 and 2005. The
effective control of the copper networks by the incumbent,
Telefónica, has allowed it to dictate the deployment of ADSL
services and become the largest ADSL – and broadband
– provider in Spain. This report profiles Spain’s
fixed and wireless broadband markets in 2005, together with and
developments in related technologies such as Fibre-to-the-Home,
broadband powerline and wireless Internet. Get
report.
Spain -
Convergence, Triple Play and Digital TV
The Spanish triple play
market has shown considerable growth in 2004 and 2005, largely on
the back of faster broadband networks including significant
roll-outs of ADSL2+ technology. The TV market is characterised by
a high number of channels at national and regional levels,
available via Free-to-Air (FTA) and pay TV, which is available
over both cable and satellite platforms. Satellite TV saw great
changes in 2003 with the merger of Telefónica’s Via
Digital and Canal Satélite Digital, owned by Sogecable.
Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) took off earlier than elsewhere in
Europe, but collapsed in 2002. This report provides an overview
of Spain’s broadband market in 2005, including recent
developments in triple play and VoIP services, together with an
overview and statistics on the FTA, pay, digital and satellite TV
markets. Get
report.
Spain - Telecom
Market & Regulatory Overviews
Spain has a large and
advanced telecom market with high mobile penetration. Internet
use and broadband penetration are both below the EU average, but
solid competition and considerable investment in broadband
infrastructure have enabled the country to catch up quickly. This
report introduces the key aspects of the Spanish telecom market
in 2005. Key statistics are provided on the country, the fixed
network services sector, and the Internet, broadband and mobile
phone sectors. In addition, this report introduces the key
regulatory issues, noting the status of interconnection, local
loop unbundling, number portability and carrier
preselection. Get
report.
Spain - Mobile
Market, Overview & Statistics
16,129,731 Spain has one of
Europe’s largest mobile markets. Strong growth since 1998
can be attributed to the popularity of prepaid services along
with increased competition, which has driven down the cost of
services. Telefónica Móviles continues to dominate the
market, well ahead of Vodafone and Amena. Third generation (3G)
licences were awarded in 2000 with controversial spectrum
reservation fees. The first commercial 3G services were launched
by Telefónica and Vodafone in February 2004. This report
provides statistics and research on the Spanish mobile market in
2005, including the key regulatory issues, and the growth of
mobile data services such as SMS, MMS and i-mode, and a profile
of the major providers. See the report
