Telecommunications Market Reports
Iceland - Key
Statistics, Telecom Market & Regulatory
Overviews
Iceland’s telecom market is small but technologically
advanced, providing modern services for its highly urbanised and
prosperous population. Mobile phone penetration on GSM, GPRS and
NMT networks is among the highest in Europe. The Internet is also
used by more than two thirds of the population, and though
broadband penetration is relatively low it is increasingly
available over ADSL and fibre networks. The market is served by
two major operators: the incumbent Iceland Telecom
(S’minn), and Og Vodafone, the combined entity formed from
the merger of TAL and Islandssimi which relaunched in 2003. This
report examines Iceland’s telecoms market in 2005 and early
2006, providing statistics on the regulatory environment, the
mobile, broadband and Internet markets, and an overview of the
major providers. Further
details.
