CIS Statistics
The Commonwealth of Independent States
- CIS - was created in 1991 and today comprises Azerbaijan,
Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova,
Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. In
September of 1993 the CIS States signed an Agreement on the
creation of an Economic Union to form a common economic space
grounded on the free movement of goods, services, labour force,
capital; to elaborate coordinated monetary, tax, price, customs,
external economic policy; to bring together methods of regulating
economic activity and create favourable conditions for the
development of direct production relations.

This report provides an overview of the Belarus telecom sector,

operators. Internet use is low compared to other Eastern European
countries and broadband services are available. The market is
characterised by a fixed-line sector with a regionally high
teledensity rate and a rapidly growing mobile sector, comprised
of three GSM operators and one CDMA operator, with all four
operator expanding network coverage. Both digital terrestrial TV
and digital satellite TV services have been launched, with plans
