Swiss Telecommunications
Market Reports
Switzerland
Broadband Market Overview and Statistics
Switzerland had one of the highest Internet and broadband penetration rates in Europe.
Broadband replaced telephone communications as the main growth area, and DSL networks
have overtaken cable as the principal technology for broadband access. Strong growth
in wireless broadband has added to the mix. This report presents an analysis of
Switzerland’s Internet and broadband markets and profiles the main players
in the DSL, cable, fibre and wireless sectors, detailing technological developments
for the provision of triple play services and providing broadband forecasts to 2019.
It also examines regulatory issues surrounding municipal fibre, legislation providing
for Local Loop Unbundling, and the provision of broadband as a Universal Service.

Switzerland
Convergence, Triple Play and Digital TV
Report
Switzerland has a small but advanced telecom market, with some
of the highest Internet and broadband penetration rates in
Europe. Although not a member of the European Union (EU), the
country deregulated in 1998 in conjunction with the EU’s
liberalisation framework. Since 2004, broadband has replaced
telephone communications as the main growth area, and DSL
networks have overtaken cable as the principal technology for
broadband access. This report presents a statistical profile of
Switzerland’s fixed network, as well as an evaluation of the
digital and terrestrial TV markets in 2009. See the report
summary and table of content.
Swiss Mobile
Market - Overview and Statistics Report
Switzerland’s mobile penetration is on a par with the European average. The
three mobile network operators have invested in HSDPA technology in a bid to encourage
consumer use of mobile data services, thus increasing otherwise stagnant ARPU. Mobile
TV has progressed, with Swisscom Broadcast having been awarded a national mobile TV
licence using the DVB-H standard. The regulator has allocated GSM spectrum for 3G use,
thus enabling the operators to extend their 3G network reach. In this report, Switzerland’s
mobile market in 2009 is profiled, presenting an analysis on the regulatory environment
and a profile of the main providers. Data services are assessed, developments in mobile
TV and other new technologies are detailed, and ARPU and 3G subscriber forecasts to 2014.

Swiss Telecommunications Market - Overview and Statistics
Report
Switzerland enjoys one of the highest broadband penetration rates in the OECD
and a competitive mobile market served by a triopoly of international players.
Switzerland’s mountainous topography helped to establish a number of cable
networks, though in recent years DSL has become the preferred means for accessing
broadband and triple play services. These platforms have been supplemented by a
rapidly emerging fibre-optic sector, spearheaded by Swisscom and a number of regional
utility companies. This report presents a statistical profile of Switzerland’s fixed
network in 2009. It assesses the regulatory environment, noting the status of local
loop unbundling, legislated in April 2007, as well as the provision of broadband as
a universal service. It also evaluates the strategies and performance of major service
providers, and looks ahead to market developments in coming years. See table of
