Market Reports
Switzerland
Broadband Market Overview and Statistics
Switzerland had one of the highest Internet and broadband
penetration rates in Europe in 2005. In 2004 and 2005, broadband
replaced telephone communications as the main growth area, and
DSL networks have overtaken cable as the principal technology for
broadband access. Strong growth in wireless broadband has added
to the mix. This report presents an analysis of
Switzerland’s Internet and broadband markets in 2005 and
early 2006. It also profiles the main players in the DSL, cable
and wireless sectors, and details technological developments for
the provision of triple play services for 2006 and beyond.

Switzerland
Convergence, Key Statistics and Digital TV
Report
Switzerland has a small but advanced telecom market, with some
of the highest Internet and broadband penetration rates in
Europe. Although not a member of the European Union (EU), the
country deregulated in 1998 in conjunction with the EU’s
liberalisation framework. In 2004 and 2005, broadband replaced
telephone communications as the main growth area, and DSL
networks have overtaken cable as the principal technology for
broadband access. This report presents a statistical profile of
Switzerland’s fixed network in 2005 and early 2006, as well
as an evaluation of the digital and terrestrial TV markets. It
also assesses the regulatory environment, and introduces the
major service providers while looking ahead to market
developments in 2006. See the report
summary and table of content.
