RENEWABLE ENERGY
INFORMATION
Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources,
such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat.
RENEWABLE ENERGY
WORLD
Traditionaly, the world used wood and coal for fuel and heating purposes.
Later, after the 1900s, coal, petroleum, and natural gas became the main
world sources of energy. These are not renewable and in a few years will
dissapear. Today, the use of renewable energy sources is increasing and
necessary, especially biofuels, solar, wind, and hydropower, where it is
available.
US ENERGY INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION
In general, renewable energy resources are frequently located in remote areas,
and it is expensive to transport that energy to the points of use in the cities.
SOLAR

|
SOLAR ENERGY
FACTS
Solar power is the conversion of energy from the sun into electricity.
Several technologies for this purpose have been developed.
WIND
ENERGY
|
|
|
|
WIND ENERGY BASICS
Wind is a form of solar energy. The wind flow is motion energy, that is harvested
by modern wind turbines, that are used to generate electricity.
GEOTHERMAL
ENERGY
|
|
|
|
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY
ASSOCIATION
Geothermal energy is the heat from the Earth. It is a clean and sustainable
resource available in certain parts around the world.
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY in WIKIPEDIA
Geothermal energy is heat generated and stored in the earth.
HYDROPOWER
|
|
|
|
HYDROELECTRICITY
Hydropower or water power is power derived from the energy of falling or
fast running water, which may be harnessed for useful purposes.
HYDROPOWER
Basically, it is the energy obtained from moving water. It comes from
the smart use of the water cycle.
OCEAN ENERGY
|
|
|
|
TIDAL ENERGY
The motion of large bodies of water can be used to turn mechanical devices
to produce electricity. Tidal energy exploits the natural ebb and flow of coastal
tidal waters caused principally by the interaction of the gravitational fields
of the earth, moon and sun.
OCEAN ENERGY
The ocean covers 75% of the earth and can produce two types of energy:
thermal energy from the heat of sunlight, and mechanical energy from
the tides and the waves of the ocean.
BIOMASS ENERGY
|
|
|
|
Biomass - Renewable Energy from Plants and Animals
Biomass is organic material that comes from plants and animals, it is a renewable
source of energy. Biomass contains stored energy from the sun. Examples are:
wood and wood processing waste, agricultural crops and their waste materials,
animal manure and human sewage. All these biomasses can be converted into
biogas, and burned as a fuel.
BIOFUELS
|
|
|
|
ETHANOL AS ENERGY SOURCE
Ethanol fuel is a sustainable energy resource that is intended to provide
a more environmentally and economically friendly alternative to fossil fuels
such as diesel and gasoline. Ethanol fermentation is a chemical process
that converts feedstocks such as corn, barley, and sugarcane into ethanol.
HYDROGEN AND
FUEL CELLS
|
|
|
|
FUEL CELLS
A fuel cell is an electrochemical energy device that converts hydrogen and
oxygen into electricity, heat, and water.
NATURAL
GAS
|
|
|
|
NATURAL GAS
Natural gas occurs deep beneath the surface of the earth. It
consists mainly of methane, but may contain small amounts of
hydrocarbon gas liquids.
NATURAL GAS IN
WIKIPEDIA
Natural gas is a mixtures of hydrocarbon gases, occurring
beneath the surface of the earth.
