Internet Seven Year Growth

Internet continues to expand worldwide. This expansion is evident in all regions, however, at very different rates. This is quite normal due to cultural, social, and economic factors prevailing in each part of the world.

The following table gives the seven year growth rates (2000 to 2007) for each region of the world, estimated according to the Internet World Stats database.

Please take note that the growth rates shown are affected by the starting point situation in 2000 for each region. Internet propagation started in 1995 and certain countries and regions were "early adopters". Other territories and regions are "late adopters". Logically they are behind the rest of the world in the Internet penetration numbers and show high growth rates today, corresponding to their efforts to spread Internet usage benefits in their areas. Some territories are "laggards", and will take a long time to adopt Internet usage.

There are 36 countries and territories in the world that have over 50% Internet penetration rates., and can rightly be considered as having a highly developed
digital culture.
