United States Internet Statistics

We have just completed something we should have done long time ago. In this issue we announce that state by state Internet and Facebook statistics for the United States are available. This is something several readers had requested and we are long overdue in reporting.

The largest group of IWS website visitors is precisely from the USA and correspond to 36% of all visitors. So, without further delay, please read on and enjoy this new IWS Newsletter issue.

Internet in the United States

The largest group of Facebook users in the world is in the United States, where it originated, with 133,518,980 users as of August 31/10, and a penetration rate of 43.0%. There are also 239,893,600 Internet users with a penetration rate of 77.3%, based on a population of 310,232,863 persons.

In the following table you can see the statistics, in alphabetical order, for the 50 states plus the District of Columbia. See list.

The 2010 US Census

We need world population numbers in order to calculate the Internet Penetration Rate in each world region, country, territory or state. The population figures are the best estimates available at any specific time. These estimates are firmed up every five or ten years by National Census, where households in a country or region are counted and the people living in each house are counted and profiled. In the United States the Census is performed every ten years. This year the 2010 Census is taking place and data is being processed. At Internet World Stats we use the US Census Bureau as our main world population source due to their high professional work standards and timely reporting.
