Albania - officially known as the Republic of
Albania - is a country located in Southeastern Europe, bordered by Montenegro to the
northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south and
southeast. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea on the west. Albania is a parliamentary
democracy. The capital city is Tirana, which is also the financial capital of the country.

Albania is tackling its digital divide problem from the roots up
by encouraging more ICT use in schools across the country. With
the support of the United Nations, the Albanian Ministry of
Education and Science is putting together plans for a new eSchool
programme giving primary and secondary students in Albania
much-needed internet and IT skills and knowledge.

Albania - Telecoms, IP Networks, Digital Media and
Forecasts
Albania has sought accession to the European Union (EU) which has benefited its telecoms
sector through closer scrutiny of its regulatory regime and through the injection of funding
to help modernise infrastructure. Albania signed a Stabilisation and Association Agreement
with the EU, which came into force in the mid-2009. As part of the EU pre-accession process,
Albania has received financial aid to build public institutions and improve cross-border
co-operation under the EU Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance funding mechanism. See table of
