Swaziland officially - the Kingdom of Swaziland - is an independent
country in southern Africa. It is neighboured by Mozambique in the east, and by
South Africa to its north, west and south. It is one of the smallest countries in
Africa. Its climate and topography is deverse, ranging from a cool and mountainous
part to a hot and dry lowland. The population is mainly ethnic Swazis. The kingdom
was established in the mid-18th century, under the leadership of Ngwane III.
Swaziland was a British protectorate from 1903 until 1967, gaining its independence
on 6 September 1968. The official languages are Swazi and English.
