The New Internet

Dear Reader,
The title may be surprising because we all know that the Internet is 48 years old, assuming that it was born in November 1969, when the ARPAnet was started. However, in January 1, 1983 the ARPAnet changed to the TCP/IP protocol, which to this date still powers the modern Internet. According to this, the Internet will be 35 years in January 1, 2018.

TCP is commonly known as the Transmission Control Protocol, and IP is known as the Internet Protocol. Its present version is IPv4, and in the near future its successor will be version six (IPv6). For those of you interested in how the Internet works, the following paper by Rus Shuler is very good reading, and the following five minute video will help illustrate the answer.

Today, the Internet has expanded to all the world and according to ICD Big Data, the Cloud, Mobile Technology and the Social Web will disrupt our lifestyles in the coming years. Please continue reading below...

The Third Platform

The Third Platform,  also called Four Pillars is an interesting initiative by ICD. They are technology enablers that allow businesses to accelerate their Digital Transformation. At the core of the 4 Pillar Technology are Big Data and Analytics, Cloud, Mobile and Social areas, which are transforming the way people and business relate to technology.

In confirmation of this information, PEW Research surveys have shown that smartphone (mobile) use of USA adults is growing and that nine in ten USA adults are online with smartphones. Likewise seven in ten adult American use Social Media.

Internet Top Websites

There are several websites that keep track and measure the number of  websites, in the world. Today we cite two of the most famous: called Quantcast and Alexa.

Quantcast features and lists hundreds of millions of websites by country of origin. Alexa shows the Top 500 websites by country and by category.

Please be advised that we are in the process of updating some of our many websites, among them All About Market Research. We will be informing you about the advances in future newsletters.

Best personal regards to all,
