Editorial

The Internet World Stats have been updated for June 30, 2007. In this newsletter we tell you all the latest findings, trends and growth, about Internet usage by geographical regions.

New graphics have been uploaded to illustrate the statistics. These charts show total users and Internet penetration by regions and countries. For comparison purposes world average numbers are included in some graphs. They have all been created inhouse by our staff and help to highlight the numbers at a glance. We hope you like them.

New statistics or rankings are published as they become available. We have created the new blog
IWS Blog where you can find information regarding the latest Internet usage statistics. Simply chose the "category" (this means subject) of your interest, from the list on the right hand column, click on it, and all the posts regarding that subject are displayed.

World Internet Stats in 2Q 2007

Internet World Stats has published new statistics for Internet users as of June 30, 2007. According to latest estimates the total number of Internet users in the world is 1,173,109,925, figure that corresponds to a global penetration rate of 17.8 percent.

Internet Seven Year Growth

Internet continues to expand worldwide. This expansion is evident in all regions, however, at very different rates. This is quite normal due to cultural, social, and economic factors prevailing in each part of the world.

The following table gives the seven year growth rates (2000 to 2007) for each region of the world, estimated according to the Internet World Stats database.

Please take note that the growth rates shown are affected by the starting point situation in 2000 for each region. Internet propagation started in 1995 and certain countries and regions were "early adopters". Other territories and regions are "late adopters". Logically they are behind the rest of the world in the Internet penetration numbers and show high growth rates today, corresponding to their efforts to spread Internet usage benefits in their areas. Some territories are "laggards", and will take a long time to adopt Internet usage.

There are 36 countries and territories in the world that have over 50% Internet penetration rates., and can rightly be considered as having a highly developed
digital culture.
