Thailand has started to energetically embrace Internet in its many forms
across the marketplace. Over the last five years, admittedly starting from
a very low base, the estimated number of Internet users in Thailand has
increased sixfold. ISPs also seem to be recovering from their earlier
reputation for unreliable performance. Now that the government taken the
first steps to fix the regulatory regime, with the CAT being sidelined from
the activities of the ISPs, there should be more opportunity for the Internet

Thailand Telecommunications Infrastructure
Report
Thailand has dedicated a substantial amount of its resources to the building
of a national telecommunications infrastructure over the last decade or so.
The economic crisis of the late 1990s was certainly a setback to this long
term process. Nevertheless, the country has recovered much of the earlier
momentum and has been attracting foreign capital and expertise once more to
assist in the continuing process of expanding and integrating its networks.

The future of E-Commerce in Thailand is positive.
Both the government and business sectors are well positioned to experience
the benefits of E-Commerce on a significant scale. Thailand government's ICT
plan for 2000-2010 plays an important role in building an environment that
helps E-Commerce by identifying and developing key building blocks, and
enhancing the electronic environment for trading and transactions among
businesses. The information infrasturcture is becoming more universal and
less expensive. Security, privacy protection, and trust are being enhanced
so that consumers will have more trust and confidence, and will try different
products and services in the future. These developments are creating great
opportunities E-Commerce solution providers, and E-Commerce-related service.
